Increasing access to healthy, local foods:
We work to create subsidies to support Community Supported Agriculture Shares in our communities. Our healthy food voucher program was initially funded by the Appalachian Foodshed Project in 2014, focusing on individuals and families participating in anti-hunger programs. In 2019 we expanded to three farm partners to strengthen CSA efforts in the state, connecting West Virginians to local, healthy food.
What we do:
How it works:
Partner organizations join our cooperative to access healthy food vouchers for their staff and clients. This CSA program connects local farms and community agencies. These shareholders are then provided with the CSA share at an affordable, subsidized price- dependent on income. The Farm to Families CSA is the result of community partnerships between Conscious Harvest, The Shack Neighborhood House, Mountain Harvest Farm, Firsthand Cooperative, WVU Community Food Systems Lab and more.
Our fundraisers support our programs, and bring together the community for fun, entertainment, and local food!
